Nigel Misson Retires After Long Career at Foys Solicitors

Nigel Misson has announced his retirement from Foys Solicitors, bringing to a close a distinguished legal career spanning more than three decades, including nearly 30 years with the firm.

Reflecting on his time in the profession, he said:

"Having qualified in 1994 and being in general practice I worked at two smaller firms at the start of my career before deciding to move to Foys in Sept 1997 to specialise as a criminal solicitor. For a number of years I worked as a Solicitor, and in 2004, I was proud to become a Partner.

I am asked what I have most enjoyed about my time at Foys and that has been the relationships within Foys and indeed within the local community. It is very rare I will walk through Doncaster without one or two people shouting hello. These relationships extend to the local magistrates and District Judges who in their own way helped to shape my own career.

Over the years at Foys I have seen the Company develop in almost every facet. Most notable has been the onset of technology. I recall working initially with a written time sheet next to me and striving to fill it to show what I had been doing. Of course everything is now carried out on computers which have decreased in size whilst increasing in the tasks they can do. Foys is now extremely advanced with the technology it uses.

One of the most significant events in my career might have been when I was given my first mobile phone probably also in 1997 by Foys. I recall walking to the Court and thinking I was now contactable anywhere and at any time. I didn’t like that though and I don’t like it now. When I do finally retire I will leave the phone behind.

I will miss the people I have had around me at Foys and those in the wider circle of the community that I have met throughout my time. Thankyou to all who have made life bearable when it might otherwise have not been and who have shared a laugh sometimes at my expense. Thankyou to Foys Solicitors for providing me with my career and their support throughout.

Foys truly is a friendly and caring place to work and has been my home away from home for a very long time."

Misson’s retirement marks the end of an era for both the firm and the wider Doncaster community.
